Bahamas to Bermuda: Testing the Waters

They say hard work pays off. This time payoff came in the form of an adventure on this tall ship from The Bahamas to Bermuda alongside the most stellar crew, including musician Jack Johnson, big wave surfers Dan and Keith Malloy, body surfer Mark Cunningham, free diver and soul sister Kimmmy Warner, Author Adam Skolnick, 5 Gyres, Patagonia, Klean Kanteen…and the list goes on, and on, and on.

The morning was fresh and there was celebration in the air. I had just finished facilitating a 3-day Youth Summit inspiring local Bahamians to lead solutions to plastic pollution on their islands. The boat, in all her beauty was ready to to embark on a voyage straight through the Bermuda Triangle. We trawled day and night to see how much plastic was in the ocean — not a sample came out plastic free.

In between samples we participated in a makeshift TED conference — meals were accompanied by presentationss from everyone onboard — about how each person was lending their talents to lead solutions to plastic pollution in their neck of the world–students and activists, CEOs, famous musicians and world-class surfers alike — all had such amazing skills and stories to lend.

Needless to say the trip was a celebration and inspiration. Read more about the voyage HERE.
